Extension Activities and Outreach Programs

In order to achieve the objectives, the following relevant extension programs were developed and implemented:

B.1. Conduct Extension and Community Outreach Programs

The faculty members in the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program conducted the following trainings and seminars as extension programs in the selected schools and communities:

B.1.1 Data Collection Mechanism for Field Interviewers of Alaminos City Health Workers

        This extension activity was under the project Sentiment Analysis of Governement Officials. The College of Computing of Pangasinan State University - Urdaneta City Campus, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of the City of Alaminos, conducted its first major activity entitled Data Collection Mechanisms for Field Interviewers of Alaminos City Health Workers on July 12, 2021 at the Alaminos City Auditorium as part of their research and extension partnership collaboration. The activity aimed to train the Barangay Health Workers on how to properly gather data to determine the satisfaction of the citizens of Alaminos City in the programs that they deliver to their constituents. Ultimately, the research and extension programs of PSU aims to improve the services that local government units to their citizens.

B.1.2 Computer Literacy Training for Student-Parent and Teacher Readiness Virtual Learning Environment in the Digital Age

This extension program was conceptualized to provide the students, teachers and parents of the adopted school and barangay of the IT department the necessary digital literacy that is timely and relevant nowadays as the whole country is shifting to distance or online learning. It would provide them the knowledge on basic computer operations and on the use of Internet technologies and on the use of online platforms to equip them the needed knowledge and skills and to prepare them for an effective and efficient teaching and learning in the digital age. The teachers of Tuliao National High School at Sta. Barbarra, Pangasinan was the benefeciaries of this program. It has four (4) different components which are intended to equip the beneficiaries with proper knowledge on different approaches in conducting classes:

Trainings/Seminar conducted under this extension program:

  1. Training-Workshop on Instructional Video Creation using PowerPoint and Camtasia Studio – Phase 1
  2. Training-Workshop on Video Editing using Camtasia for TNHS Teachers
  3. Training on Learning Management System Utilization using Google Classroom
  4. Training on Integrated E-Class Record & Computer-Generated Tests with Table of Specifications

With all of the component trainings completed, the said project had successfully concluded with the technology transfer ceremony which was held the same day as the fourth installment of the trainings were completed.

B.1.3 Adopt-a-School: Project Extensible: MalasakIT with a Heart

This extension program was conducted to provide Camantiles National High School, the adopted school of IT department the necessary technical assistance, consultancy services and extend community services and programs that would greatly benefit the welfare of the community folks. Thereby helping them become more productive and competitive.

This program encapsulates three extension projects dubbed as “Project 3xtensible: MalasakIT with a Heart” and they are as follows:

eTRAIN. The research outputs of the department was extended to provide trainings/seminars to the adopted school. Teachers was trained by the pool of experts thru the product of the research in the form of technology driven tools and applications and other research outputs that are worthy to deliver extensible output. Series of trainings/seminars was conducted for the teachers of CNHS for more effective and productive teaching and learning process

eCARE. The department conducted consultancy services, checking of computer laboratories for networking  and participated Brigada Eskwela  as a show of care to the adopted school which Camantiles National High school.

eSHARE. Sharing is caring. IT department believed that sharing items to the adopted school is an act of caring The IT department donated routers to the school for their internet access. And also as a sign of eShare, the department provided a system called “Online Quiz Management System” to help the teachers in generating Test questions. The best way to multiply happiness is to share it with others. It is a form of community service/outreach as well.

These three extension projects hope to empower, develop their skills and become more productive for the betterment of the school.

The following are trainings/seminar conducted under this extension program:

  1. Basic Troubleshooting Phase I
  2. Basic Troubleshooting Phase II
  3. Training on Online Quiz Management System

With all of the trainings completed, the PSU/ IT department extension program received a certificate of Completion from Camantiles National High School as the adopted school.

B.1.4 Adopt a School Project, Training Workshop Program for Public Secondary School

This extension program was extended to Camantiles Narional High School teachers as program beneficiary.This program aimed  to enhance the knowledge of public secondary teachers in preparation of their instructional materials for better teaching and learning process. The department conducted training entitled Multimedia Training Workshop – Phase 1”, and under this workshop, the teachers learned how to use audio visual presentation using PowerPoint and how to edit and layout pictures through the use of Photoshop rendered by two faculty of IT department as the resource speaker of the said training.

B.1.5 Quiz Gen: Computer Generated Test Questions

This extension program was organized to provide Camantiles National teachers training in the use of the developed system for effective student evaluation. The adopted school also received a software package of Quiz Gen from the department, and signed certificate of acceptance as proof of accepting the system.

B.1.6 Outreach Program: PSU-LGU ICT KONEK

            This outreach program was partnership of PSU Urdaneta City and LGU Urdaneta City, aimed to provide workstation for those students who are not able to provide their own computers and struggling internet connections. Through the partner agencies, this program “PSU-LGU ICT KONEK” was implement and was located at 2nd Floor, Cultural Sports Complex Building, Urdaneta City Pangasinan.

B.1.7 Outreach Program: Helping our Community Frontliners in the Era of Pandemic

In abundance of pandemic, IT Department shown love and care to the community frontliners by giving of food supplies. The faculties of the department pledge Php300.00 each  as a contribution for the budget.This outreach activity was under Project 3xtensible:MalasakIT with a Heart.

B.1.8 Outreach Program: Brigada Eskwela 2018-2019

            The department also particiapated the Brigada Eskerla of Camantiles National High School in preparation of the starting of the class.

B.1.9 Outreach Program: Handog 2019

            The supreme Student Council of Pangasinan State University-Urdaneta City Campus conducted annual outreach program entitles “Handog 2019” at different schools of Urdaneta City
