Syllabus, Table Specifications, Examinations, and Instructional Materials
Every time classes start, each of the faculty members of the Information Technology Department of Pangasinan State University – Urdaneta City Campus is tasked to prepare course packages. Course packages may include course syllabi, table of specifications, examinations, and instructional materials to assist students in managing their study time and maximizing their learning. Furthermore, faculty members are expected to provide mechanisms to inform and orient learners on the learning system to be implemented, which may be in a form of course packages for students that are accessible through off-line and online modes.
A syllabus is a requisite document for teaching in that it serves to outline the basic elements of a course. Faculty members are expected to prepare and submit updated syllabi five (5) days after the commencement of classes. The syllabi are then to be evaluated using the syllabi checklist. Once approved, these will be signed by the Department Chair, College Dean, and the Campus Executive Director and submitted to the Department Chair for filing.
Table of specification (TOS) is a tool used to describe test items in terms of the content and the process dimensions. It is a blueprint or plan prepared by an instructor to serve as his/her basis for the test construction. Faculty members are expected to submit TOS three (3) days before the examination schedule. Also, the actual examination papers need to be attached with the TOS.
Instructional materials have been observed as a powerful strategy to bring about effective teaching and learning. The importance of quality and adequate instructional materials in teaching and learning can occur through their effective utilization during classroom teaching. Instructional materials here include all the tools that the teachers can use to make the learning more interesting and memorable at the end of every semester, instructional materials are expected to be created. These materials will then be checked, evaluated, and copyrighted. These materials will be utilized to deliver quality teaching, which can have positive effect on students’ learning and academic performance.
